The story of a doll’s chair that became an icon on the terraces of the French Riviera.
Woodwork, French manufacturing and timeless design are at the heart of the Azur Confort history. Since 1936 and the design of the first F101 director’s chair, we have been committed to designing and manufacturing high-quality furniture, while embracing contemporary social and environmental challenges. It is in our factory (located in the French Alps) that we cultivate the know-how of Azur Confort, one of the few companies to offer outdoor furniture in lacquered wood.
From dolls’ chair to outdoor furniture
It was not until the 1950s that the director’s chair really took off. It was during this period that Louis Inderchit, Henri’s son, designed the famous red terrace of Saint-Tropez’s most famous café: Le Sénéquier. A partnership between our two companies that is still going strong.
The family adventure became Azur Confort in 1989, when the third generation of the Inderchit family took over the business. Still made in the Alps factory, Azur Confort wooden furniture is winning over establishments on the French Riviera and is gradually becoming established in Savoie’s winter resorts. Until the day our furniture appeared in the first 5-star hotel, in recognition of our expertise, twenty-five years after the birth of Azur Confort.
However, the economic situation forced Azur Confort to reduce production of Henri Inderchit’s historic models. At a time when it is difficult to compete with imported furniture from Asia.
Restoring manufacturing to its former glory
In 2016, Raphaël VOISINE took over the company, with the aim of restoring the central role of furniture manufacturing. A design office was created, enabling furniture design to be reintegrated into the company. Old designs were modernised and new models created to offer a complete range of outdoor furniture.
The way we produce is also changing. Since 2020, changes have been made in line with an eco-design approach that takes account of the challenges facing our society. Use of European wood species, eco-design, solvent-free products… Reducing the impact of our manufacturing is a daily task that is part of our values.
